A small reminder
Dear Self:
Thinking about writing...is not writing.
Daydreaming about writing...is not writing.
Chatting about writing...is not writing.
Reading about writing...is not writing.
All of these things are a delicious part of the whole writing MEAL, but without the main course, they are just so much garnish.
It's OK to start again. As long as you start.
Love,
The One who is Stuck

YOU CAN DO IT! You're an amazing writer, and you owe it to yourself and to US, your humble readers, to see your work in print.
I believe in you! Go kick some novel butt!
I agree with the sentiment completely and blogging is usually the activity keeping me from writing, but I have found that thinking about writing, specifically, thinking through and about what I'm writing is also an important part of the creative process and it seems to be highly underrated. I find if I get too caught up in the WIP and keep going on it, I leave out some of the necessary time to let it percolate and evolve.
Just keep going...not to tempt you, but I left a list of some of my favorite writing books in my comments for you! (Number two is just strict enough it might break you of this block...)
Love,
D.
Yes - it is okay to start again, as long as you start. And keep starting every day. That's what I know from this life I'm living too. Is writing about writing... writing?
I love your writing.
Oh Miss M. If it was all smooth like teflon, it wouldn't have any texture, right? Will be thinking of you next wkend whilst in NYC--will eat w/Sherry and Xtina and we'll toast you, okay? Thinking of you. Sending waves of affection to you, TEG, and La Petite Madame. XOox, Heather

So true. About everything good and difficult in life.
This was cute! May the creative muse pay you a visit soon!
You have a beautiful blog and I really love your writing. I loved your fairy princess story. I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly with this post because I have spent the month of August reading about everyone else's writing travails on all their blogs. But it has been a wonderful journey and I'm glad I did cause that's how I've found great stuff like your blog and Sunday Scribblings. It's all been quite inspiring. Thanks for sharing it all.
From one stuck mama to another, a new mantra: Persevere, period.
Go for it girl!
Sending positive vibes!
What happened to talking to yourself as if you're a good friend?! Would she prod you with that reminder?? (I hope you know I'm teasing!) :) I do love that idea--to speak to oneself in the voice of a dear friend. How can we be so loving and caring and gentle to our friends?...while beating the CRAP out of ourselves?! :)
substitute the word WRITING...for any action or desire..and you pretty much have a mantra for life.
You'll get moving soon... I can feel it.
Hi you! I'm finally home and scouting around to blogs and friends I have missed this summer -- this post is spot-on; I can relate so much! And I can add another one:
Writing about writing is not "writing." But it's what I am doing right now. Sometimes writing "how-to" is just what I need to pep-talk myself. Now, it's how I'm getting myself warmed up to plunge back into the real writing I need to do!
You will get unstuck, M. You're a real writer. It shows in every sentence you write. You'll do it!!
I. Hear. You.
*sigh*
But. I started today.
...And I feel kinda good about it.
I'll hold you up, if you hold me up?
:)
it's just words on paper, right? No purpose necessary, right? So:
what was your favorite childhood toy? That $5 in your wallet - where did it come from? Now, what does that $5 have to say? Or just write about not writing - which you just did and it's as lovely a thing as I've beheld in a long time! You go grrrrl!
Personally, I'm hoping blogging about writing counts as writing -
because that's about all the writing that's been done around here for more days than I care to admit to even myself.
Thanks for sharing this - I need those reminders.
Oh - and also, I just wanted to say, that from what I've read in your blogging, I think you could write a shopping list that would be worthy of publication. Hang in there - you're showing up at the page is meeting the muse halfway - if you keep showing up, eventually she'll show up, too.
Great post.
so happy to have stumbled upon your blog and found another writing mom.
It's hard but so worth it.
Thanks for all of your words, everyone. After reading them, I was able to take a deep breath and accept my delay without (too much) despair. You all keep saying, "Just show up." And I will try.
And Delia, I checked out your list and just got my copy of Chapter After Chapter. Can't wait to read it!
Laini, where are your how-to posts? I have been searching for them because I so love them...you should write a writing book. Seriously.
